SuJok Therapy derives its name from two Korean words: “Su” (hand) and “Jok” (foot). It is founded on the idea that the hands and feet serve as miniature representations of the whole body, with specific points corresponding to different organs and systems. Healing is facilitated using methods such as acupuncture and micro-magnets.

Registered Acupuncturist & Co- Founder of Lumera Health Collective (Metro Vancouver)

Alyx’s background stems from connection; connection not only to other people, but to self and to this curious universe. Her education, while wavering in its technical requirements, has always been focused around exactly that; earning a degree in Landscape Architecture, a diploma in Earth Architecture, a diploma in Acupuncture, and certificate in SuJok Therapy.

The one sure thing that all these studies have in common is connection. Alyx’s calling is to continue working with self, with the force of nature and with others, supporting connection and healing through the use of multiple modalities and learnings.

The Story of Lumera in Metro Vancouver

Founded in Spring 2025, Lumera Health Collective was created with a clear intention: to offer a calm, supportive space in Metro Vancouver where people can explore natural approaches to healing.

From the beginning, our focus has been on whole-person wellness, combining gentle therapies with personalized care that meets each client where they are. As we connected with the local community, we recognized a growing need for accessible, holistic options, which naturally led us to introduce Sujok therapy as part of our services.

Today, Lumera continues to grow as a place where people can experience thoughtful care, learn about their health, and feel supported on their wellness journey.

WHAT IS SUJOK THERAPY?

SuJok Therapy is an advanced form of acupuncture rooted in the principle that the human body is a microcosm of the natural world. A microcosm is something that can be seen as a small version of something much larger. This term, microcosm is incredibly special, as we relate it not only to the world of acupuncture and healing, but to the natural world as we know it, and to the universe as a whole.

This therapy is based on the principle that the hands and feet are microcosms of the entire body, containing correspondence points that reflect every organ and system.

  • Key Concepts of How SuJok Works:

    1. Correspondence System:

      • The core of SuJok Therapy is the correspondence system, which maps the entire body onto the hands and feet. For example, the thumb represents the head, the fingers represent the limbs, and the palm corresponds to the torso. By applying pressure to specific points on the hands or feet, you can influence the corresponding body part.

    2. Energy Flow and Meridians:

      • SuJok also incorporates the concept of energy meridians, which are channels through which life energy (Qi) flows. These meridians are connected to specific organs and functions in the body. If the energy flow is disrupted or blocked, it can lead to illness. SuJok Therapy uses techniques like acupressure, acupuncture, or seed therapy to stimulate these meridians and restore balanced energy flow.

    3. Six Ki & Eight Ki Theory:

      • SuJok integrates various different elemental theories into determining ones constitution. By balancing these elements within the body using SuJok techniques, practitioners can address imbalances that may lead to physical or emotional issues.

    4. Triorigin Theory:

      • The theory posits that everything in the universe, including the human body, operates under four fundamental forces or origins: Neutro, Hetero, Homo, and Neuto. Triorigin Theory offers an advanced framework to understand the interconnectivity of the body, mind and universe. It's within this theory that many of the sequences we use in practice were born.

    5. Treatment Techniques:

      • Acupressure/Acupuncture: Pressure or needles are applied to specific points on the hands and feet to stimulate energy flow and relieve pain.

      • Seed Therapy: Seeds or small objects are taped to specific points on the hands or feet, using their natural energy to stimulate the corresponding body parts.

      • Magnet Therapy: Magnets are applied to certain points to influence the body’s electromagnetic fields, helping to balance energy and promote healing.

      • Color Therapy: Certain colors are applied to specific points on the hands or feet to balance the body's energy based on color vibrations.

  • SuJok Therapy is an advanced form of acupuncture. SuJok Therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture share common roots in Eastern medical philosophies, but they differ significantly in their approaches, techniques, and underlying principles.

    SuJok Therapy uses theory that includes the use of chronological acupuncture, innumerable sequences (none of which we have access to in TCM) and magnet therapy.

    The theory implemented in SuJok Therapy incorporates not only TCM, but also teachings from numerous ancient civilizations including Indian civilization, and teachings from both the Nile River (Egypt) and Mesopotamia Civilizations.

  • Practitioners of SuJok often find that patients experience immediate relief from symptoms, which can be particularly effective in treating acute conditions. This rapid response makes SuJok a compelling alternative or complement to traditional acupuncture.

    It's theory and application also make it stand out among the world of specialized acupuncture niches. It is often known for its effectiveness in treating fertility issues, diabetes and emotional conditions, inculding both depression and PTSD. Other conditions it can treat is honestly exhaustive, as its scope is massive. Some of the more common conditions include but are not limited to:

It can be used to address and ease varying pregnancy concerns, including but not limited to acid reflux, nausea and vomiting, uterine and/or ovarian cysts, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, anemia, as well as inducing labour towards the end of term.
